Day 1

Kibale National Park

Kibale National Park

Everything has been planned and organized and now it’s time to enjoy and start your journey with us. Welcome to Uganda! After introducing you to your guide and answering your questions, we’ll take you out to show you all that this amazing country has to offer.

Kibale National Park is one of East Africa’s most important chimp strongholds. This forested park is home to roughly 1,000 of these charismatic apes, the largest population in the region, and the chances of a close-up sighting are excellent.

Even if you don’t manage to see chimps, listen out for their unforgettable pant-hoot call as it resonates through the forest interior. Other wildlife you might encounter in Kibale includes monkeys such as Uganda mangabey, Uganda red colobus and red-tailed monkey, and an astounding 370 bird species.

Day 2

Queen Elizabeth National Park

Kibale national park to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast we head to the park for breifing then head to the forest for chimpanzee trekking. Proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park, a savannah-dominated reserve known for its conspicuous populations of lion, elephant, buffalo and other iconic African creatures. There are also hippos on the pretty Kazinga Channel, a flat and narrow waterway that connects Lake Edward and Lake George within eyeshot of the snowcapped Rwenzori Mountains, as well as rainforests alive with chimps and monkeys, and crater lakes tinged pink by flocks of flamingo. Indeed, this is possibly the most biodiverse national park anywhere in East Africa.

Boat Trip, Kazinga Channel

We join an afternoon boat trip following the Kazinga Channel to its confluence with Lake Edward. Hemmed in by steep walls and set below the glacial Rwenzori peaks, Kazinga is home to large numbers of hippo, as well as elephant, buffalo, waterbuck and Uganda kob. Lion, leopard and giant forest hog are more occasional. The birdlife is reliably fabulous.

Evening Game Drive, Queen Elizabeth National Park

Going on an evening game drive is one of the highlights of any safari. This is when temperatures cool, the light becomes softer and the wildlife begins to get active. Not only will you be out when the light is best for taking photos, but it’s also one of the best times of day for seeing the animals.

One of the best places to stay in Queen Elizabeth National Park, the Bush Lodge comprises a dozen stilted canvas bandas, each with an outdoor shower and private terrace. Here, you don’t need to leave your lodge to see wildlife: hippos are a permanent presence on the bordering Kazinga Channel, and elephants and buffalos are frequently seen crossing the water or marching through the camp

Activities Day 4

Evening

  • Mountain Gorilla Trekking, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Evening

  • Enjoy the scenic setting between cultivated slopes, a
scattering of pretty islands and the conspicuous
birdlife on our boat trip on Lake Bunyonyi this
    evening.

Lake Bunyonyi

Dammed by a lava flow 8,000 years ago, Bunyonyi is a flooded river valley that extends for 25km from north to south but is nowhere more than 5km wide. The absence of hippos and crocodiles means swimming is safe; it’s also resulted in an unusually dense population of otters, which are often seen from the shore. A great beach chill-out destination, Bunyonyi also offers plenty of walking and kayaking opportunities to keep active travelers busy.

When you go mountain gorilla trekking, you’ll hike through the forest and then spend time in the presence of these remarkable and soulful family groups. The walking can be strenuous, but you’ll never forget your experience here.
